The footage was provided to local NBC affiliate KUSA, which reported they had been sent other videos showing a total of eight East High cheerleaders being forced into the splits.

Wakefield and her mother, Kirsten, were not immediately available for interviews. The teen said she would speak with BuzzFeed News later on Thursday.

However, KUSA published an email sent from the mother to the school’s athletic director on June 15, stating that her daughter injured her leg from the incident:

I have attached a video of the forced splits she and her other team members were forced to do at cheerleading camp and practices; unless they had a doctor’s note. This is how Ally injured her leg.

My husband and I would like to know what the administration is going to do about my daughter’s injury and how it happened.

Charleston police report possible ‘active shooter’ situation

Authorities in Charleston, S.C. said Thursday they are investigating a possible “active shooter” situation in the downtown area.

Police spokesman Charles Francis said a shooting was reported just after noon on King Street, which is a row of restaurant and shops where tourists frequently gather.

He did not immediately report any injuries or information about a potential suspect. No other details were immediately available.

Tom and Patsy Plant told the Post and Courier newspaper that they were eating at Virginia’s restaurant when they saw a man with a gun in his hand come out of the kitchen, saying “There’s a new boss in town.”
