A Dutch football team replaced its traditional child mascots with lingerie models for this year’s Valentine’s Day football match.

Players from RKC Waalwijk, currently bottom of the Netherlands’ second division, were filmed exiting the players’ tunnel holding the women’s hands.

Replacing the traditional child mascots, the models wore lingerie and white shirts for the struggling club’s publicity stunt.

The women, dressed in underwear and white shirts and socks, were used in the club’s marketing stunt

Despite the grins seen on the players’ faces, the models’ presence couldn’t help their performance – they lost the match 1-0

They were also dressed in white RKC Waalwijk socks in order to match the players they stood beside during the handshakes before the game.

Photographs taken throughout the match day later showed them posing for photographs with players and club officials.

On behalf of the referees, one model even carried the match day ball out into the centre of the pitch.

But despite a promotional video released days prior and the popular reception the stunt received among home fans, the move did little to spur on the players.

The team, which has taken only 18 points in 24 games this season, went on to lose the fixture 1-0 to FC Emmen, who now sit in 6th place.

Last season the club finished dead last in the second division, though it was not relegated because both the winners in the league declined promotion.
