When it comes to children’s characters, they don’t get more wholesome than the all-singing, all-dancing Elsa from Frozen.

But cosplay artist Ashley Monticello, 22, from New Jersey, has given the Disney heroine a rather racy new look by turning her into a pin-up girl in lingerie.

And the Harry Potter fan has also transformed her favourite Hogwarts character, by posing as a female version of the wizard’s friend Draco Malfoy in a bustier and suspenders.

Going by the name Ashley Uncanny, she’s been involved in Cosplay since 2012 after a friend invited her to the New York Comic Con.

‘They knew I loved Iron Man and would enjoy the Marvel attractions at the show,’ Ashley tells FEMAIL.

Ashley went dressed as Black Widow from The Avengers, and was surprised when she was inundated with requests for pictures.

‘I ended up getting mobbed with cameras. For some reason so many people wanted a picture of me,’ she recalls.

‘I learned that when people dress up for cons, its called “cosplay”.

‘Growing up, I loved to craft and sew and make things so this interested me right away.’

Ashley started making her own costumes and attending local conventions. And to make herself stand out from the crowd, she soon found a way to put her own unique spin on dressing up as her favourite characters.

‘I have always been in love with burlesque costumes from the 1920s as well as pin-up photography and makeup through the ages,’ she explains.

‘I thought that it would be a lot of fun to take characters I enjoyed such as Elsa, Emma Frost and Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter and use them as inspiration to mix them with that pin up style.’

Her take on Elsa from Frozen see Ashley pose against a wintry back drop, wearing an ice blue corset and black stockings.

Wearing a wig, styled into Elsa’s signature fishtail plait, she poses coquettishly for the camera.

‘It is such a fun and creative process to turn the costume from a popular character into a pin up outfit or a burlesque costume,’ Ashley says.

‘When I do my pin-up cosplays, I usually pick characters I enjoy the most because I get really invested in the creative design that goes into making those costumes, or choosing the perfect lingerie pieces.’

Another of her favourite creations is her re-imagining of Draco Malfoy from Harry Potter.

But instead of a flowing wizard’s cape, Ashley wears a short grey skirt, patent high heels, and a tight grey jumper to work the saucy school girl look.

Another photo sees her sprawl across a chaise longue, wearing an emerald green corset.,

When choosing a character, Ashley always picks one she can relate to in some way.

‘If you pick a character you love or identify with, it makes getting into character the easiest thing in the world,’ she says.

Ashley has a huge collection of wigs as well as a full walk-in wardrobe of costumes and accessories and an extensive collection of M.A.C cosmetics.

And she admits dressing up as her favourite characters has given her self-esteem a much needed boost.

‘Cosplay to me is a way for that unpopular little girl in grade school version of me to have a voice and express herself in the way she always wanted.

'Cosplay has been a real confidence boost for me,' says Ashley, who admits she was once teased by her friends about her love of dressing up

‘I have always had such a love for characters in popular culture and I love dressing up, and my peers always thought I was strange for it and that really put a damper on my self-esteem.

‘Cosplay has been a real confidence booster for me. It allows me to create and have other people see and admire my work, as well as being able to be my inner nerd and it be a cool thing.

‘Also, I gained so many new wonderful friends who are just like me who encourage me and support me and its such a great feeling.

‘I did not go into cosplay to be famous. I went into cosplay to encourage others like me who struggle with their confidence and self-esteem to break out of their shells, put on a cape and show how great of a person they are inside.

‘I know for a fact that cosplay changed my life and made me a more outgoing girl who loves herself, her mind, and her body.

‘Encouraging others to feel the same kind of happiness is something that makes the positive side of cosplay so magical.

Martha was also crowned an Angel this year after walking her first fashion show for the brand in 2013.
