3D scanning makes choosing lingerie easier, says Hong Kong store

A high-end lingerie shop in Hong Kong is promising clients a whole new shopping experience thanks to its 3D-assisted made-to-measure service.

A 3D scanning mirror at Rigby and Peller’s takes accurate measurements of a client’s bust in less than a minute, supplementing the tape measurements taken by the lingerie stylist, who can then recommend the most suitable styles and colours for each figure and shape.

The aim is to combine modern technology with a stylist’s expert knowledge to reduce the time it takes to chose an item.

“The technology itself is actually looking at so many points, 140 points of our body, and this information tells you precisely what your size is so that allows you to actually better understand: Okay, with this information, which we called the size ID, shape ID, you will be able to determine what your size is and you will also be able to know what size you are with what brand,” says Lui Tong, General Manager of Private Shop Limited.

But there are privacy implications to collecting such personal data.

The shop says all the digital images taken of customers are deleted after the scan.

Measurements will only be kept in the company’s database for future purchases if the customer gives her consent.

“I do think that it’ll become more common because I think as customers are exposed to such service they know that the level of service can be very high, i.e. they can actually pinpoint things so they do not have to spend too much time perusing and trying all the different products, so I think they will start demanding the same level of service,” says Jeanne Tan, professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

After trying the new 3D scanner, customers are under no obligation to buy, although reportedly 90 per cent of them do.

Size 16 model Ashley Graham shows off new lingerie range in sexy bedroom shot

She hit headlines last month when she modelled a series of sexy underwear sets on the catwalk during New York Fashion Week .

And now Ashley Graham has treated fans to a sneak peak of her new collection with a very sexy bedroom snap.

The size 16 star can be seen sultrily lying back on the bed, with her hair falling down her back and her lacy lingerie on the show.

Earlier this week the stunning brunette attended the Forbes’ Under 30 summit.

The 27-year-old was there to speak about her work with ALDA – a new agency and collective which brings together models larger than the traditional sizes seen on the runway and in campaigns.

She told the audience: “I like to think that I’m not trying to be a disruptor, I actually am disrupting the industry. It’s been a long time coming, I’ve been modelling for the past 15 years, I’ve been considered a plus size model for the past 15 years.

“I started modelling when I was 12-years-old, I was 5″9 and a size 12, believe it or not…I’ve really been trying to chop down this tree for so long, and now finally people are hearing me because I’m using my body to let other women know that imperfections are OK.’

“That cellulite, rolls, curves, all of it, things that jiggle that ‘shouldn’t be jiggling’- it’s OK. I think what helped me, was a lot of people telling me no because I’ve always been a little bit of a rebel.

“I was told I was never going to be on the cover of any magazine, let alone in the inside, and I did five covers alone last year and I was in the pages of Sport’s Illustrated as one of the first curvy models. So I didn’t let anybody just take down what I had been told for so long and I think that’s really important about being a disruptor in any industry.”

And to top off an amazing day – she was delighted to see that Khloe Kardahsian had shared a picture of her writing: “DAAAAAAMN Gina! I’m obsessed with model Ashley Graham’s curves!!”
