Goodness Gracious Me

FEW MEN will admit to watching a soap opera, let alone being fans, but a few studies suggest more and more are succumbing to its charms.

The addiction, like all questionable habits, starts innocently enough. A quick glance at the screen as some or other actress/eye-candy saunters around in her lingerie. A perfectly reasonable response as events take an unexpected turn, usually brushed off with an agitated glare, forcing you to watch and find your own answers. It’s akin to her asking who’s playing during a cup final, or who’s winning on the first day of a cricket Test match. Soon, the inevitable cliffhanger at the end of each episode feeds into the curiosity building up inside you. Perhaps you’ll just take a peek tomorrow. And then, you’re hooked.

As with your favourite sports team, this can become a lifelong obsession. And so, if you’re new to the game (soapie fans are loyal), what better way to indulge your new fix than with a continent-crossing saga that spans eras, culture-clashes and forbidden love.

India: A Love Story is an Emmy award-winning telenovela and one of the most-watched TV shows in Brazil. Like the World Cup that just played out in that country, expect surprising twists and high drama, stunning locations, and a cast of fetching actors.

At the heart of the story are a young Indian couple, Raj and Maya, who are forced into an arranged marriage. Both are, however, already in love with other people. Raj, a jet-setting businessman, has fallen for a Brazilian woman, while Maya is smitten with a man from a lower caste. Realising that they have no choice but to make their marriage work, Raj and Maya slowly start to fall in love with each other, but the secrets of their past threaten their newfound happiness.

• India: A Love Story, Monday to Thursday at 9pm on Glow TV on the OpenView HD format.

IT’S just as easy to get hooked on good British humour, which is what Goodness Gracious Me certainly is.

This comedy sketch show is a laugh-a-minute insight into the quirks of Asian expats in Britain.

Blessed with a star-studded cast featuring Sanjeev Bhaskar (The Kumars at No 42) and Meera Syal, as well as Dave Lamb (better known as the sarky voice-over guy on Come Dine With Me), Goodness Gracious Me plays on the changing nuances of culture in a foreign setting with a host of entertaining characters.

Characters like Chunky Lafunga – a Bollywood superstar who tries to make it in the West, but manages to turn every production into a Bollywood musical; Mr Everything Comes From India, who in quite delightful detail, manages to explain why Santa Claus, and even Superman, are Indian.

Don’t be put off by the decidedly Eastern flavour: if the exploits of Blackadder, Fawlty Towers and The Fast Show ensemble rate highly on your list of favourite comedies, Goodness Gracious Me will seriously tickle your funny bone.

• Goodness Gracious Me airs every Thursday on Glow TV at 7.30pm.

She might have been christened Elle Macpherson, but the supermodel proved why she’s also known as ‘The Body’, when she stripped down to tiny two-piece for a snap posted online on Thursday.

Posing on a yacht and silhouetted against the backdrop of a brilliant blue sea in the Italian Riveria, the health guru showed off her picture-perfect form in a sporty grey, black and yellow bikini.

Holding a glass of her green goodness in her hand, the Australian beauty made the perfect poster girl for her new Super Elixir – a wellness drink that’s sold out twice in UK store Selfridges since launching on May 22.

With legs that last for days, the six foot stunner looked the picture of health as she tagged the shot: ‘Super greens… After super swim.’

Showing off her to-die-for abs and toned limbs the age defying mother-of-three threw a casual sweat jacket on for the Italian Riveria holiday snap.

And it seems the average woman is holding out hope that Elle’s latest product- the Super Elixir health supplement- may help them achieve the blonde’s enviable figure. But no promises.

The Super Elixir health supplement, a bio-live alkalizing product which aims to assist vitality, has sold out across the UK and has celeb fans in British musician Florence Welch and UK model Daisy Lowe, some artists even flying tubs into Glastonbury festival to help them balance their body chemistry.

Including alkalising super greens, Chinese herbs, and the miatake mushroom, Elle claims that just 10g of the powder, taken daily, provides all the vitamins, minerals and trace elements needed.

‘For years, I was taking vitamins and powders,’ she told the MailOnline in May. ‘I tried alternative medicine, acupuncture, reflexology.

‘I’m a pescatarian, I don’t drink, do drugs or smoke so what else can I do? I wasn’t unaware of wellness but something wasn’t working for me and I told my doctor “I don’t feel great”.

‘She told me my body was acidic, it was down to stress, travel and lack of sleep.’

The in-demand product hits David Jones’ shelves on 10 August, and no doubt will have health addicts lining up for a taste. But the supermodel body is not guaranteed.

One of the original ‘supers’ the Australian businesswoman who has her own lingerie line knows a thing or two about keeping in shape in other ways.

A firm believer in balance the cover girl cites regular exercise, visualisation, meditation and of course her drink for being in fabulous shape.

The U.S-based Sports Illustrated star is said to be one of the celebrities following a new clay drinking craze, according to Grazia magazine.

The clay, which the A-listers mix with water, is said to be rich in magnesium, which bonds with toxins and heavy metals in your body before flushing them all out.

Many 20 and 30 year olds would die for a body like that. Elle is called The Body for a very good reason,

So the overpriced green sludge has sold out…are women really that gullible and stupid to think they will look like her if they drink this stuff? It’s not a magic potion straight out of a Disney movie! She looks like that because she starves herself, works out daily, uses botox and fillers and thanks to the gullible can live like this
