In a world where success appears to be driven by how many likes your Instagram gets and which girls Snapchat which designers’ clothes, Araks Yeramyan is taking a different approach. “My lingerie is so natural and real and simple,” Yeramyan told Style.com. “I wanted to express it in a way without lights and hair and makeup. Not so ‘done-up,’ because for me, it feels most sexy to wear something on its own, something quiet, something simple.” 

The designer has completed her latest issue of Araks Lingerie Project, a photo book featuring her eponymous brand’s sumptuous, minimalist lingerie shot by several close friends and creative collaborators, including Jason Schwartzman, Maryam Nassirzadeh, Kate Foley, Leandra Medine, Sofía Sanchez de Betak, and Vanessa Traina Snow. The premise was simple: Each contributor was given a disposable camera and asked to fill the entire roll with photos of one set of lingerie or sleepwear. “It was so great, working with a disposable camera,” Traina Snow told us. “Not having the instant gratification of seeing your image right away, kind of forgetting what pictures you even took. Just having fun.” The disposable cameras captured a realness and intimacy that rarely translates across social media, giving the images a dreamy permanence.

Like any daring fashionista, Gaga knows that the best way to transform an outfit is with fantastic accessories. So to jazz up her already buzzworthy leather lingerie while promoting her album in Berlin in 2013, the singer added garter-style tights and platform stiletto lace-up boots, and tied the look together with a floor-length fur coat with red satin lining. And let’s not forget that statement-making beauty look. A platinum pixie and frosty white lashes are kept from looking too “White Witch” (a la The Chronicles of Narnia) with a Salvador Dali-inspired stache.

To switch it up for Thursday evening’s Songwriter Hall of Fame Induction Awards — where she received the Contemporary Icon Award — Gaga’s two-piece leather lingerie ensemble got an Ozzy Osbourne-meets circus ringmaster update with a bright red smoking jacket, bedazzled round sunglasses and ski boot-inspired buckled flatforms.
