A new lingerie brand founded by plus-size model-turned-designer, Mckenzie Raley, is selling wireless bras that promise to support large busts.
‘It almost borders on shape wear because it’s more supportive than any kind of cotton, jersey, or what typical wireless bras are made out of,’ Miss Raley, 26, told Elle. ‘It’s still really sheer, but just has a little more muscle to it.’

The idea for Land of Women, founded in 2013, grew from Miss Raley’s inability to find a bra that she loved in stores.
‘My personal style is pretty minimal, so the typical lingerie didn’t suit my aesthetic or functional needs,’ she explained.
‘I didn’t like underwires or padding or loud colors. I wear a lot of black and white just out of convenience so I designed my first bra, “the classic,” and started developing a prototype and that led me to a six-piece collection.’
The brand, which she labels ‘empowering,’ is something that is lacking in the intimate apparel industry, she added.

Land of Women has launched a classic, no frills six-piece bra and underwear collection made of powernet that has enough high retention to forgo wires altogether
‘Our tag line is “lingerie for the sport of womanhood,” and I really believe in that. It creates the idea of women working together instead of against each other.
‘Aside from sportswear, we really don’t see women being powerful and confident in a way that isn’t hyper feminine. And in that respect I’d like to redefine how people think of lingerie.’
Miss Raley said it is important to design pieces that accommodate as many body types as possible, so the label will be expanding its sizes soon.
‘When I’m designing, I definitely think of issues that I have with intimates and try to find a solution, like using stronger fabrics or higher quality trims,’ she said.

Birmingham-based web designer Diamond Studios has a slew of projects rolling out in the next few weeks, including apps for MTV’s lingerie football league and NAPA auto centers.
Diamond Studios CEO Joe Miele said his company, which got its start in 1982, has been making the transition from producing commercials and web designs to mobile app development during the last five years.
“We look to push the envelope for one client as a way to attract other clients, and then offer the same innovation and development for them,” Miele said.
He said MTV contacted his company about developing an app similar to one for the National Football League, but for its female lingerie Legends Football League.
The LFL features 7-on-7 games of women clad in lingerie and football pads playing the full-contact sport. The league has teams in the U.S., Canada, Australia and Mexico.
Miele said the app will show scores, schedules and real-time, play-by-play stats for LFL games. The app will be available on iOS and Android platforms in 192 countries.
Diamond Studios is also preparing to launch an app for NAPA auto centers that will be used for internal communications for 15,000 NAPA locations, as well as its own app called Flikit that allows users to simultaneously share video streams with selected friends. Those apps will also be available on iOS and Android platforms within a few weeks.
Once these projects are launched, Miele said there are others in the pipeline that will help his company grow. He currently has 12 programmers on board and is expecting to add more in the future.
“There are very few nationwide that can do what we do developing from the front end to the back end on iPhone and Android platforms,” he said. “Obviously our goal is to grow, but the full integration of our products is the endgame.”
Other apps in development include those for Trussville-based Amerex Corporation and national Groupon provider Enjoy the City. You can view a lineup of other apps developed by Diamond Studios here.
