SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. -
At New York Fashion Week — it’s all eyes on the clothes. But what’s under them is just as important. Much of the lingerie on the runway comes from the Green Mountains.
After being fed up with pinching and pulling underwear, Kerry O’Brien and her husband Ed started their own version of going commando.
The business, cheekily named Commando, started 11 years ago and is the original invisible underwear. “I wanted something more from my top drawer. I wanted underwear that didn’t dig into me and hosiery that was comfortable,” said O’Brien.
Commando started with bra inserts and then found its groove with raw-cut underwear made from micro-fiber blends that were comfortable to wear. “We’re known for invisible underwear so we do that. It’s no elastic or trim on underwear; it’s all clean cut. There’s nothing to dig into your body. That also means no panty lines which can ruin an outfit.
O’Brien is a fourth generation Vermonter. She made her way to New York City and worked at a top public relations firm, but the terror attacks on 9/11 changed everything. “After Sept. 11 I quit my job,” said O’Brien.
Always known by her friends as an underwear guru, O’Brien decided to move back to Vermont to start Commando. What began in a three car garage, the company is now based in a 15,000 square foot facility in South Burlington and employs 50 people.
Along with several styles of underwear, the company also makes bras, weighted slips, reversible bathing suits and hosiery.
Reporter Gina Bullard: So why the high waist?
O’Brien: Because you want the pressure to be evenly distributed.
Bullard: So when you take them off you’re not like ughhh.
Kerry O’Brien: Yes, there’s no lines. It goes back to comfort.
The undergarments are worn by people around the world and sold at 1,200 stores across the country including Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdales and Bergdorf Goodman. “Underwear is an afterthought and that’s not how it should be. Underwear can set the tone for your day,” said O’Brien.
Made in Vermont undergarments that are better than nothing.
Commando underwear starts at around $20 a pair. For more information about Commando, click here.

News: Move Over Ashanti, Nicki Minaj Gets Oils Up In Lingerie
Friday, May 9, 2014 5:08PM

RB vixen Ashanti may have had “Thirsty Thursday” on lock yesterday (May 8), however, Young Money’s Nicki Minaj is giving the diva a run for her money with a handful of new photos. #TooHotToHandle
In Nicki’s latest bach of Instagram photos, she is seen rocking a two-piece outfit and covered in oil.
I guess Nicki Minaj got the message that we couldn’t get enough of the pics she posted of herself in a salmon-colored bikini on Wednesday, because the rapper turned up the heat on Thursday with her latest set of Instagram selfies. For the second day in a row, the “Yasss Bish” MC posted a string of behind-the-scenes photos from her Myx Fusions commercial shoot, and for the second day in a row, they were a sight to behold. Nicki looks as stunning as ever in her indigo lingerie, as she sprinkles in oiled-up close-up shots while shooting the commercial. (MTV)
Last month, Nicki released a steamy Instagram clip to her followers and previewed a new track.
Nicki Minaj is shaking up the ‘Gram once again. The bootylicious rapper posted a couple videos of herself twerking while previewing a new song. Her back faces the camera as she slowly winds her famous ass up and down. “This aint me. It’s a friend of mine,” joked Nicki. But the melodic song is not the one that she plans to debut in the coming week. “Lol. That’s not THEE song. I promise,” she told her fans. (Rap-Up)
Back in February, Minaj promised her upcoming Pinkprint album would go down as a classic.
Nicki says she’s putting her myriad of outside ventures and interests, like fashion, on the back burner while she completes the effort. “I’m just working on the album. Nothing is gonna take precedence over that,” she says. “Nothing matters to me more than creating a classic album right now. All of that can wait. I don’t care about none of that. We at home, working it out.” (Complex)
Over the winter she updated fans about the status of her long-awaited solo effort.
“The Pink Print is not gonna have a release date. You’ll never know when it’s coming until it just comes,” Nicki added. “[Will I pull a BeyoncĂ©?] No, no. I’m not. Not all the way. Just meaning in terms of a release date, I won’t set a release date until the album is really done and I’ve lived with it for a long time. I’m not gonna pull a Bey, but I’m just gonna chill for a second and see how it goes.” (Hot 97)
