Well, one would have thought that it just involved having a pretty face and a slim body, but when quizzed backstage at this week’s London show, various models disagreed.
“You have to be confident, positive…” spouted one impossibly-good looking lady who is unlikely to be splitting the atom.
I mention this because news has emerged that Irish prop forward Cian Healy not only attended the show, but tweeted pictures from the event to make his friends jealous, having been fortunate enough to come into possession of a treasured “golden ticket” which allowed him access to the after-show party.
Which prompts the question – why?
I have been to one or two fashion shows in my life, and consider them to be perhaps the most inappropriate, and tedious, place for a man to be, unless he has a compelling reason to attend.
UNDRESS
If it were a lingerie show, moreover, packed with some of the world’s most beautiful young women in a state of undress, one’s reluctance to attend would be increased by the suspicion that, as a single straight man, you’re there just to leer.
One can understand Cian having attended shows in the past when his ex-girlfriend, model Holly Carpenter, dragged him along for company.
But other than the fact that he went because he was invited, it’s hard to think of a single reason for Cian to go to the Victoria’s Secret show.
He was not working himself, and has no involvement in the fashion business.
Other than the obvious reason, of course, which is to stare at women in lingerie.
Is it stretching the bounds of credulity to suggest that Cian might be missing Holly a bit more than he’s letting on?

Did Taylor Swift pull a Katy Perry on Jessica Hart?
Swift performed in lingerie at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show in London on Tuesday night, while Victoria’s Secret model Hart was nowhere to be seen.

Swift reportedly demanded Hart be removed from the big show following remarks the model made after 2013′s Victoria’s Secret show.
“It’s not been announced that Jessica is not walking, but it was a direct request from Taylor,” a source told The Daily News.
Swift got mad at Katy Perry earlier this year because she thought Perry tried to steal her backup dancers. Now she avoids all contact with her fellow pop star. And Swift’s treatment of her exes in song is now legendary.
Hart made the mistake of saying last year that Swift didn’t fit in well with the models. This year, however, Swift looked like she could have a second career as an Angel if she wanted.

Models sashayed down the catwalk wearing lingerie paired with sparkly, over-the-top costumes: think giant butterfly wings, full feather skirts, and gold knee-high stiletto boots. Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio donned the brand’s “fantasy bras” – encrusted with thousands of jewels and worth $2 million each – and Karlie Kloss wore gilded angel wings made of 18K gold.
Unlike most mainstream fashion shows, models walking for the lingerie label are told to have fun and flirt with the audience. They also got to wink, dance and laugh onstage with Swift, who appeared in a glamorous pink and black lace outfit. The singer later changed into a racy black lingerie set worn with a matching lace cape.
Ariana Grande and Ed Sheeran were also featured as models strutted around them.
Ariana Grande: Smacked by an Angel
Asked whether he was nervous about performing so close to scantily-clad women, Sheeran joked: “That’s how I usually perform.”
“It’s one of the only times I’ve ever played when the attention isn’t on the musician, so it’s an odd thing.” he added.

Ahead of the show, model Lily Aldridge told reporters she was looking forward to a fun performance.
“You can be sexy and have fun and smile. You get to let your personality shine, so I love that,” she said.
Aldridge called the performance a “little slumber party that we get to have in London.”
A slumber party to which Jessica Hart was apparently not invited. Maybe she was hanging out with Katy Perry instead?
