Lingerie and zombies

Violet Paille thinks it’ll be easy to scare up an audience for this event.

Paille and her husband Michael Paille have been hosting C4 Central Canada Comic Con shows each October in Winnipeg since 2006. They’ve brought in an impressive list of exhibitors and stars over the years, but fans have often asked for guests from horror movies.

Paille has no doubt someone like Exorcist star Linda Blair would turn heads, but the appearance fees for horror guests over the Halloween season are extremely high.

Folks at the RBC Convention Centre suggested to Paille they had a weekend opening in February and they also wanted a horror-themed event. As a result, the St. Valentine’s Horror Con will invade the Convention Centre’s third floor Feb. 13-14.

Despite the fact many horror movies are intended for adult audiences, Paille expects Horror Con to attract a wide demographic that includes kids.

“It’s still a trade show, so people can come and shop,” Paille said, adding there is similar show in Chicago that draws huge crowds annually. “For programming, we’ll have a Dead Rising game where you can kill as many zombies as you can in three minutes.

“There will be an ultimate horror trivia challenge. There will also be panels with authors and artists. All of our guests will have their Q and A time and we’ll have a costume contest on Saturday.”

One of Paille’s first priorities was to secure guest star Kane Hodder, the man behind the mask as Jason Voorhees in four of the Friday the 13th movies.

“A lot of fans have mentioned to me that Kane Hodder was the best Jason ever,” said Paille, who is the president of C4 and also owns Cobra Collectibles along with her husband.

There will be more than 50 vendors and exhibitors. Action figures, busts, books and art work will be for sale. Members of The Costume Alliance will be on hand, there will be a Texas Chainsaw photo booth, and Adam and Eve will host a zombie fashion show.

“It’ll be five girls dressed in lingerie and zombie costumes,” Paille said. “They will also be doing a photo booth so fans can get their pictures with the zombie lingerie models.”

Another exhibitor is Twisted By Design Studios, which was founded by Winnipeg’s James Ferriera to build and sculpt the most realistic, Hollywood-quality monster masks and accessories.

Regina author Marlin Marynick will discuss his book, Charles Manson Now. Marynick met with Manson in California’s Corcoran State Prison in 2009.

Das Zombie Productions will “transform the living into the undead in their zombie factory,” Paille said.

“They’re an independent film company with teams in Winnipeg and Alberta and they do their own zombie movies,” she said.

Earlier this week, Das Zombie made up a model for a promotional photo and Paille had the woman accompany her as she went around town putting up posters.

“There were a lot of double takes,” Paille said.

Horror Con tickets are available through Ticketmaster or at the show.

Irish men try on ‘sexy’ women’s lingerie, finally understand the struggle

For years women have despaired at some of the sexy lingerie men give as presents.

Sure, a pretty bra and knicker set that actually matches is always nice.

But struggling into the tight confines of a bustier, and trying not to catch a cold while wearing underwear that might as well not be there, doesn’t really sound like anyone’s idea of a birthday treat.

And now men, well some Irish guys at least, finally understand the struggle of supposedly sexy lingerie.

Three men gave corsets, crotchless bodysuits and cleavage enhancing camis a whirl in this highly educational video for Facts,

They learned that trying to get into the damned contraptions is half the struggle: ‘I feel like a fish caught in a six-pack of beer.’

They realised that wearing them can make women feel absurd and uncomfortable: ‘This doesn’t make me feel sexy, it makes me feel like a piece of meat.’

And questioned why half of this stuff is sexy anyhow: ‘I don’t understand what’s sexy about fishnets, unless you get massive boners at the thought of the sea.’

Yeah, they actually said that.

The overall conclusion was: ‘Girls don’t need that. Just be yourself. Feel comfortable in your body and I didn’t feel comfortable in that.’

We couldn’t agree more.
