The Las Vegas-headquartered Lingerie Football League is expanding rapidly, and our local Las Vegas Sin is gearing up for its second season. New head coach Jeremiah Captain ran a mini-camp at Longevity Sports Center over the weekend for 30 gridiron girls.
By the end of January, he hopes to have a 20-strong roster in place for the rigors of training camp. Six Sin players are returning: Nikki Johnson, Cassandra Strickland, Danika Brace, Jenny Yukich, Matty McCoy and Kandace Golar.
The first home game is against the Green Bay Chill on June 22, and tickets for that battle and the July 20 fight against the Seattle Mist at Orleans Arena are now on sale.
Jeremiah told me, “They are all looking good. Training camp in January will show us who hits hard and who can take hard hits. Then we build their stamina because this is such aggressive play, we don’t want their bodies torn up.
“The girls are all excited and ready to get to training camp. We’ll have a very solid and difficult choice to make for the final roster.”
Nikki, Season 1’s quarterback, told me: “In our first season, we were still a young team, so it was nerve-wracking and scary to get to the West Coast finals. Now I’ve learned how to finish because I don’t want to taste a loss like that again.”
Nikki played as quarterback and offensive coordinator for the expansion team Regina Rage in Canada this fall: “We have great fans up there, and it taught me to be a leader. Playing also in Australia and Mexico after losing to the Los Angeles Temptation in the conference finals taught me a lot.
“I’m feeling faster, better and stronger because I didn’t have an off-season. I have a new sense of leadership and have learned to keep my composure.”
Incredibly, our hometown hero Nikki, who is a full-time business school student expecting to graduate in February and a part-time employee of Clark County Parks, played the past nine months with a broken wrist. She didn’t think anything of the first injury while playing for the Sin, but in Canada it was injured again against a Toronto team — and doctors discovered the full break.
She’s still healing with it in a soft-cast — and still working out with the football drills and exercises.
“I’m not letting something like that bother me,” she laughed. “We have to be tough. We have to be conscientious. We’re here to win, not to weep.” On Saturday, Dec. 15, the LFL hosts its first-ever USA vs. Canada game for the Pacific Cup when the Canadian champions B.C. Angels take on the Seattle Mist.
The game will be broadcast to more than 80 countries in HD and will be available to U.S. fans exclusively on LFL’s website LFLUS.com. After Season 2, the LFL debuts the Australian league in winter 2013, which Down Under is the country’s summer.

Lingerie hotline helps clueless gifters this Christmas

Men, are you feeling the heat to find the perfect gift for your partner this year? A new lingerie hotline is here to help reveal the secrets of buying intimate apparel for her.
For more than 30 years, Dianes Lingerie has seen every hopeless faux-pas as men try to shop for undergarments at Christmas and walked generations of men through the murky waters of purchasing proper lingerie.
“We want to help give men confidence and ensure they’re armed with facts when walking into a lingerie store,” said Lynda Barr, director at Dianes Lingerie. This year they have created an informative video and set up a toll-free lingerie hotline at 1-877-458-BRAS (2727), operating during regular business hours seven days a week until Dec 24, to help answer questions and provide expert advice.
“We find that men struggle with these purchases from their 20s into their 60s,” observed Barr. “But men are definitely finding it easier to ask than in years past. When I started working here we’d see men walk by the store two or three times before coming in. Now they just walk straight in.”
And for those still too afraid or embarrassed to ask for help — don’t be. Lingerie experts love to provide you with the advice and expertise that you need, and whatever your concern they’ve heard it all before. In the words of Dianes Lingerie, “You have to ask yourself — would you rather look stupid buying lingerie or giving it?”
Pro-tips for our gentlemen readers:
Size matters (no matter what they say). Too small is as bad as too big.
It’s all about cups. Sneak into her room when she’s in the shower and get the right cup size … or, you know, you could just do her laundry.
Match her style not yours. Make sure it’s something she likes when matching colours and fabrics for outfits. A fantasy role-playing outfit that she would never wear isn’t much better than buying her that new Snap-on socket set you were sure she’d love.
Practicality. Guys, buying a practical bra is not romantic. If you do this, expect soap-on-a-rope for your next gift … at best.
