VS Apologizes for their Native Gaffe: When we saw Karlie Kloss come down the Victoria’s Secret runway in a Native American-inspired headdress, we knew it spelled trouble. In fact, less than one week after the show’s taping (it airs on December 4), the outfit has already been cut from the special’s televised line-up after sparking massive controversy on the Internet. In the past day both VS and Kloss have issued apologies. “We are sorry that the Native American headdress replica use in our recent fashion show has upset individuals…out of respect, we will not be including the outfit in any broadcast…” VS wrote. Kloss tweeted her apology, writing, “I am deeply sorry if what I wore during the VS show offended anyone. I support VS’s decision to remove the outfit from the broadcast.” [Fashionista]

Hot white women in Native American headdresses: not cool.

Two weeks after No Doubt apologized for and pulled a video from YouTube that featured singer Gwen Stefani gyrating in a feathered headband amid other cowboys-and-Indians tropes, Victoria’s Secret says its annual televised fashion show won’t include footage of model Karlie Kloss wearing leopard-print lingerie paired with a squash-blossom necklace, a fringed, turquoise-studded belt, fringed high heels and a full-length Native American headdress.

Native American groups complained about the headdress, saying it is meant to be worn only by chiefs and warriors who have earned respect through an act of bravery or compassion, the Associated Press reports. (And no, Kloss in her unmentionables does not qualify as a compassionate act.)

“We have gone through the atrocities to survive and ensure our way of life continues,” Navajo Nation spokesman Erny Zah tells the Associated Press. “Any mockery, whether it’s Halloween, Victoria’s Secret — they are spitting on us. They are spitting on our culture, and it’s upsetting.”
